Well, we’re getting on a plan in less that 12 hours. We’ve got a few days off, then we play our first show in Europe – for Berlin Music Week / the Popkomm festival! The details are:

27/08/10 – New album finished… Europe here we come

If you’re all wondering why we’ve been so quiet for most of this year, it’s because we’ve been hard at work on our new album. We can now tell you a few things about it – it’s called King of the Sugarcoated Tongues, it will be out in Spring 2011 (European spring, that is) and it’s very very different to Living Receiver,

Firstly, it’s a concept album (well, technically it’s a ‘rock opera’, since there’s a story involved). Secondly, it’s us being 100%, well….. us.

The other thing to mention is that we’re setting sail for Europe next Saturday. Not sure when we’ll be back – it’s an open ended thing. We’ve got some great shows booked already though, and we’ve been selected to showcase at the Popkomm festival in Berlin in a couple of weeks, so it looks like things are off to a flying start.

Between now and the album release date we’ll be posting lots of behind the scenes stuff – footage from the studio, artwork previews etc. As a start, we’ve put up 2 tracks from the new album for you to check out – “The Piper’s Mirror” and to give you a glimpse of our prog side, the 8 minute “The Captain”. New faces

Lastly, we’ve got a couple of new faces to introduce - Justin Kool (yeah, that is his real name) joins us on bass and Andy Nielsen on drums. Poor guys don’t know what they’re in for yet – now where’d we put that helmet and beer keg?… New photos coming soon too.

12/01/09 – March of the Drones 2009 national tour + new single

Happy new year everyone! I’ll keep this post short and sweet – we’ve got 2 exciting things to announce.

Firstly, we’re releasing our new single Drones this month. You can check it out on our music page. Fingers crossed you’ll hear it on the radio in the next couple of weeks. You can help by ringing your favourite radio station and requesting it (“Drones by The Sunpilots”). The Drones music vid will be out soon too – check back in a couple of weeks.

Secondly, our March of the Drones national tour kicks off in Feb. We’re heading through NSW, VIC, WA, SA and QLD. We’re stoked to announce that the tour is being presented by Drum Media, Inpress, Time Off, Rip it Up and Fasterlouder.com. We’ll be doing quite a few acoustic shows as part of this tour, so you can check out the big gigs and also come along to smaller and more intimate “unplugged” shows.

Well, we’ve been on the road for a few weeks now and it’s been awesome so far. I know the location of the best kebab stores in every town we’ve been to (there was a Lebanese place in Shepparton which was better than sex, I swear) and we’ve met some cool (and freaky) people. This week we’re doing a run of NSW tour dates, including the big Sydney launch on Sat. It’s our hometown and it’s the same day the CD hits stores Aus stores, so it’s going to be a huge night for us. I’m already feeling hung over just thinking about it…. . A couple of new things to report:

iTunes exclusive – ‘Living Receiver’ available pre-release. CD out this Saturday

iTunes are doing an exclusive pre-release of Living Receiver. Which means that the album is available for purchase NOW! Just click on the button and let iTunes do the rest:

Aussies, if you want the pretty booklet and the album on CD (as well as all the extra stuff that’s on the CD, eg. music vids) hit up your local record store on August 2nd (yep, that’s this Saturday). The first 500 CDs are shipping with a limited edition tour badge and sticker.

‘You’re Gonna Be a Star’ is track 2 from ‘Living Receiver’ and it’s available on iTunes now. You can head to the music page of the new website to check it out. It’s a bit heavier than the last single… we even pulled out a few 30 year old vintage synths for the song. Ooooooh. Anyone who’s watched a reality TV show will know exactly what the song’s about….

By the way, our awesome music vid producer Mediarize has just released a funky online series about the spirit of dance, called üBERgroover.tv. Check it out!

09/06/08 – New album, new single, new tour, new look….

Hey everyone – talk about long time between updates, eh? A lot of you have been asking what has been happening with the new album. When will it be released? Does the album actually exist?!! We have the answer to both these questions:

Living Receiver, the debut album, will be in Australian stores on August 2nd
(and shortly afterwards will be available to international fans via our website).

So what took us so long, some of you may ask? To be honest, we had a lot of other stuff going on (touring was a big one) so recording got pushed back a little. Being our first album, we didn’t want to rush it. We experimented, we mixed, we drank, we re-mixed and finally ended up with something we were happy with. If you head to the music page you’ll be able to listen to an “album preview” (mash-up of several tracks from Living Receiver) – it’s track 2 on the player. We collaborated with some amazing musicians from all over the country (and the world) – from sitar and tabla through to hammond and a string quartet. Raj’s mum tracked a traditional Carnartic-style (classical Sri-Lankan music) intro to a rockin’ track called Medicated Shell. So there are a few cool moments to look forward to.

Living Receiver National Tour

We’re about to embark on the biggest national tour we’ve ever done in Australia. We’re travelling through NSW, VIC, QLD, WA, SA and TAS. For our NT fans, we promise we’ll head your way next time around! The petrol money would have killed us… All the dates are on our tour dates page. This is the big one for us, so we’d love to see you, your friends and your assorted domestic animals there.

New single – You’re Gonna be a Star

Yep, that’s right, to kick off the countdown to the album, we’ve launched our second single You’re Gonna be a Star. Most radio stations should have the track by now, so if you feel like requesting it we’d love you long time. Here are a few links to request it on Nova. The trick is to request You’re Gonna be a Star by The Sunpilots:

You can check out the song on the music page (it’s track one on the player). What’s it about? It’s about girls who will do anything to get to the top. Fake girls with fake breasts and fake tans . We’ve shot a killer video for the song – check back in a few days and it will be on the site.

New websites and a new look

We’ve launched a brand new look myspace page and youtube page, so check them out if you’ve got some time. This site is still being developed – we’ll be adding a photo gallery, a fans-only section where you can download free music videos and songs etc. very soon. 08/02/08 – Spotlight is the #1 most added song to radio

“New Artist 2 Radio (NA2R) winners, The Sunpilots have soared straight to #1 [most added] with Spotlight in the Sun this week after experiencing a heap of interest from radio folk across the country … Expect to be hearing a lot more from these indie rockers!” Music Network, Feb 2008

Today we scored the #1 most added song on Australian radio this week with Spotlight in the Sun! The track was also the #1 most added song in the Contemporary Rock category. The show of support from the likes of Nova, Triple M, Sea FM, Star FM, Hot FM and community radio across the country will really help us kick things into high gear for the independent release of our debut album Living Receiver in May. The song will also air on Take40 Australia this weekend (either Sat or Sun, depending on where youare). Take40 goes out to 110 stations around the Oz.

You can help us out by ringing your local station and requesting the song – having it on their playlists is one thing – playing it regularly is another

The music video for “Spotlight in the Sun” was broadcast nationally on Video Hits (Ten) again yesterday (Sunday). Don’t forget, it’s available for free download (video iPod compatible) from our Backstage Area. The clip has been now been viewed almost 50,000 times on Youtube.
