3 Minutes to Midnight is the prologue to King of the Sugarcoated Tongues. The song was inspired by the Doomsday Clock, a symbolic representation of how close we are to destroying ourselves & this beautiful blue marble we live on.
The clock was created by the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists in 1947 after the devastation of the first atomic bomb. The closest we've come to self-destruction (midnight) was during the Cold War when the US tested the first hydrogen bomb. That was 2 minutes to midnight... In 1991 the superpowers began dismantling their nuclear weapons & there was hope climate change would be taken seriously. The future looked bright. That was 17 minutes to midnight.
This month the scientists adjusted the clock again. We're now at 3 minutes to midnight- the closest we've been to self-destruction since the Cold War.
King of the Sugarcoated Tongues is a post-apocalyptic story about what could happen if the world keeps spinning out of control. We'll be explaining that story for the first time over the coming week. Our planet is on the verge of tearing itself apart & it's time to intervene. Now.
